- How Sony Global Education, Inc., ("SGED", "we", "our" or "us") may read, collect, use and/or store your information when you apply to, participate in and/or use our online math competition named “Global Math Challenge” and the related services (collectively, “Service”); and
- How you can contact us in relation to your information collected through the Service.
1.INFORMATION WE COLLECT
SGED will ask you to register and collect certain information about you when you create a user account of the Service (“Account”) such as:
- Email address
- Time zone
- Language setting
(b)3rd Party Service Account Information
If you chose to create an Account using an account of other network service that we designate (“3rd Party Service Account”), we may receive your 3rd Party Service Account information that you registered to your 3rd Party Service Account such as the account ID.
When you register a “Challenger(s)” under your Account, SGED will ask you and collect certain Challenger’s information such as:
- Date of birth
- Nick name
- Time zone
- School name
If you register as a Challenger(s) through your 3rd Party Service Account, we may receive the Challenger’s information to be registered from your 3rd Party Service Account.
When you use the Service, SGED may automatically receive the information regarding how you and/or Challenger use the Service including IP address, answers on the online tests.
When you pay for the Service, SGED may receive your payment information including the payment ID issued from the payment service provider you use.
2.HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
SGED may collect and/or analyze the information referred to Section 1 in order to:
- Provide you with the features, functions and customer support of the Service;
- Enforce the terms of service and any rules or codes of conduct applying to the Service;
- Provide and improve our products and services and to develop new ones;
- Identify potential security threats and to protect SGED, its users and its affiliates; and
- Run promotion relating to the Service.
We may use the statistical data regarding the Service to improve our products and services and also to develop new ones.
Subject to your preference, we may send communications relating to the Service to parent’s or teacher’s e-mail address, such as test reminders, our service/product information.
3.SHARING OF YOUR INFORMATION
Your information that is communicated to and stored by SGED may be made available to:
- The purchasing or acquiring entity in the event that we sell or transfer a portion or all of our business.
We may also retain, use and/or disclose any of your information as required or permitted by law, regulation or order, including to the police or other appropriate authorities, to investigate complaints made by or against you, or to protect or defend ourselves, or others, against illegal, criminal or harmful activities.
4.DATA RETENTION; MANAGING YOUR INFORMATION
We will retain the information described in Section 2 for as long as you use the Service and for a reasonable time thereafter. If: (a) you would like us to delete user provided data that you have provided via the Service; (b) you would like to gain access to such data; or (c) you would like to correct your inaccurate data, please contact us through our contact address set forth in Section 11 and we will respond in a reasonable time and manner. Please note that some or all of the user provided data may be required in order for the Service to function properly, and we may be required to retain certain information by law.
5.TRANSFER OF YOUR INFORMATION INTERNATIONALLY
The Service is available to users around the world. Your information will be processed, stored and transferred for the purposes outlined in Sections 2 and 3 to outside your country of residence, including in particular Japan. Your information will be processed by staff operating outside your country of residence who work for us or for one of our service providers and may be seen by such staff in those countries.
SGED undertakes reasonable security measures designed to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of your information. Although we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information transmitted to us through the Service or that we store on our systems or that is stored on our third party contractors' systems.
7.OUR POLICY REGARDING CHILDREN
Only a person who is above the age of thirteen (13) may register to the Service.A child under the age of thirteen (13) (“Child” or “Children”) may not register to the Service and may not have her/his own Account.To use the Service, a Child needs to be registered by her/his Parent or the authorized school teacher as further described in the Terms and Conditions of the Service.
If a Child attempts to register to the Service,we will first request the email address of her/his parent or legal guardian (collectively, “Parent”)and then we will provide the Parent with a notice to ask to make the Parent’s Account.Unless the Parent completes the Account registration process,the Parent’s email address we collect for this process will not be used other than for providing the notice to the Parent.
If we recognize that personally identifiable information of Children have been collected on our Service without parental consent,then we will take appropriate steps to delete this information.If you are a Parent and are concerned that your child has provided us with personally identifiable information without your consent, you should contact us as indicated below.
The Parent or authorized school teachers who registered Children under her/his Accountmay review such Child(ren)’s activities anytime by signing in to the Account and also delete the registered Child(ren) from the Account.
8.COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
The technologies used on our websites to collect usage information, including device identifiers, may include:
Cookies: "Cookies" (which may be html files, Flash files or other technology) are small text files that help store user preferences and activity. A cookie is placed on a device when it is used to visit our websites or otherwise access our online offerings. Cookies may be used for many purposes, such as remembering you and your preferences, tracking your visits to our web pages and customizing your website experience. You may refuse to accept cookies by altering the settings on your internet browser. If you choose to disable cookies on your device, some features of our websites or our online offerings may not function properly.
Web Beacons: "Web beacons" (also known as image tags, pixel tags, GIFS or web bugs) are small pieces of code used to collect advertising data, such as counting page views, promotion views or advertising responses. Web beacons or similar technologies may be used for a number of purposes, including, without limitation, to count visitors to our websites, to monitor how users navigate our websites, to count how many sent e-mails were actually opened or to determine whether content sent was actually viewed.
Google Analytics: We use a tool called “Google Analytics” provided by Google Inc. to collect information about your use of the Service. We use the information collected through Google Analytics to improve the Service and develop new products/services. We do not combine the information collected through Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics is in accordance with their policies below.
9.PRIVACY RIGHTS / CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS
In some countries, you have certain rights with respect to the personal information SGED holds about you. These may include the right to request a copy of the personal information that we hold about you and/or you may request that we correct, amend, delete or block such personal information if it is inaccurate. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us through our contact address set forth in Section 11.
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 (the "Code") permits users who are California residents to request certain information regarding the disclosure of personal information to third parties which is used for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, to which SGED shall respond to the extent required by the Code, please contact us through our contact address set forth in Section 11.
